History of Tsinghua University
Tsinghua University is a research university located in Beijing, China, with a strong emphasis on engineering, technology, and business education. The university was founded in 1911 as "Tsinghua Xuetang" (清華學堂), the preparatory school of Beijing's Imperial University (later renamed Peking University). With the help of donations from alumni and other supporters, Tsinghua Xuetang soon expanded its programs beyond pure science and technology to encompass humanities and social sciences. By 1925, it began offering bachelor's degrees, and by 1928 it had established seven colleges: Liberal Arts, Sciences, Engineering, Agriculture and Husbandry, Law, Medicine, and Business Administration. In 1930, Tsinghua School was renamed "Tsinghua University," reflecting its success in adding graduate courses to its programs.
